Dec. 10 'Love Wins!' Concert To Benefit Ana Grace Project And WestConn Scholarship
DANBURY - "Love Wins! A Celebration of Music to Benefit the Ana Grace Project and the Ana Mérquez-Greene Scholarship at WCSU" will be presented from 8 to 10 pm on Saturday, December 10, at Western Connecticut State University.
The concert will be performed in The Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC), on the university's westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension.
"Love Wins!" will feature Regina Carter on violin, Christian Sands on piano, Russell Malone on guitar, Ben Allison on bass, Alvester Garnett on drums, and WCSU Coordinator of Jazz Studies and Assistant Professor of Music Jimmy Greene on saxophone. The event is hosted by the WCSU Department of Music.
Ticket sales and donations will support The Ana Grace Project, an organization "dedicated to promoting love, community and connection for every child and family," according to its mission. The concert will also benefit The Ana Grace Mérquez-Greene Music Scholarship, an endowed memorial music scholarship for incoming freshmen at WCSU.
The project and the scholarship fund were created to honor the memory of Ana Grace Mérquez-Greene, daughter of Jimmy Greene and Nelba Mérquez-Greene, and one of the children killed on 12/14.
Ana's mother, Nelba Mérquez-Greene, said, "We are thrilled to honor Ana's life by making significant financial contributions to the community. This evening is everything Ana was about: joy, music, love. We are thankful to WCSU, Klingberg [Family Centers], and the community members who love and remember Ana."
Tickets are $35 for general admission and $50 for a VIP reception with the musicians before the concert. A limited number of $20 WCSU student tickets are available with a valid WCSU ID at the VPAC box office.
