Two Residents Promoted At Greenwich Fire Department

Two Newtown residents have advanced in rank in the Greenwich Fire Department, with one man becoming the department’s sole assistant fire chief, and the other becoming one of the four deputy fire chiefs there.

In recent ceremonies, Robert Kick took the oath of office to become the assistant fire chief, having been promoted from the post of deputy fire chief. Mr Kick, 35, of Newtown is married and has one child. He formerly served as a member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

Also, Chris Sadlier of Newtown has taken the oath of office to become a deputy fire chief in Greenwich, having advanced from the rank of lieutenant. Mr Sadlier filled the deputy’s post that was vacated by Mr Kick. Mr Sadlier also is the first assistant fire chief of the United Fire Company of Botsford, which is a volunteer organization.

Mr Kick said this week that as Greenwich’s assistant fire chief, he will be involved in budgeting, purchasing, and fire department operations. A 15-year member of the Greenwich department, he served as a firefighter, a lieutenant, and a deputy chief before becoming the assistant chief.

The fire department has 100 paid members and 50 volunteer members and responds to about 5,000 calls annually. Greenwich has approximately 65,000 residents.

Mr Kick said that he is now updating and developing new operational procedures for the fire department.
