Parks, Sr

Always There For Those In Need

Richard J. Parks, Sr, 87, previously of Fairfield, beloved husband of Julie Brunori Parks, died November 25 in his home in Boynton Beach, Fla. Born and raised in Bridgeport, Mr Parks was a Fairfield resident for most of his life before moving to Florida 13 years ago.

In addition to his devoted wife of more than 60 years, Mr Parks is survived by his sons, Richard J. Parks, Jr, and his wife, Bonnie, of Newtown and Gregory Parks and his partner, Robert Doyle, of Vermont; a daughter, Betsy Parks of Madrid, Spain; two grandchildren, Colleen Parks Strang and Timothy Parks; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Cole Strang; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, George, Thomas, and Gerald Parks and a sister, Barbara Harrold.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He worked briefly for the Fairfield Police Department and then for the US Postal Service for most of his life, starting as a mail carrier and retiring as the postmaster of Fairfield.

Mr Parks was a longtime parishioner of St Emery’s Church, past president of the Holy Name Society, and enjoyed many years as “master of ceremonies” at various events. He was a past president of the Fairfield Lions Club, a past president of the Retired Postmasters Association (NAPUS), and was a volunteer for several civic organizations, including chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family and friends and for his willingness to help those in need. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Funeral services were held December 3 in St Emery’s Church, Fairfield, with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown, with full military honors.
