Robert Lawrence Toothill, 85, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Newtown, died December 4 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehab Center in New Milford. He was born December 27, 1930, in Bridgeport, and was the son of the late  Helen (Buckley) and Charles Toothill.lung.org.

After graduating high school, he served with the US Navy during the Korean War. On September 15, 1951, he married Jacqueline St Pierre.

Mr Toothill was a letter carrier for the US Post office for 30 years before he retired in 1992. In 1998 the couple moved from Newtown to Port Charlotte, where he was a member of the Moose Lodge. They lived in Port Charlotte until his wife passed away in February 2016.

He enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and was an avid baseball fan.

His son R. Thomas Toothill and his wife, Kathy, of New Milford; his daughters Melissa Shaw of Waterbury, Joyce Sherlock of North Port, Fla., and Barbara Jones of Danbury, N.H.; his sister Katherine Wargo of Shelton; and six grandchildren survive Mr Toothill.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 10, at the Walnut Hill Community Church, 156 Walnut Hill Road, Bethel, at 11 am.
