Holiday Activities Abound At Creative Music Center

MONROE — Several area musicians performed Saturday, November 29, at Creative Music Center, 701 Main Street.

Local students and music teachers from the store participated as part of Creative Music’s First Annual “Performathon” marking the independently owned business’s first anniversary at its new location, and to kick off a series of Saturday “Countdown to the Holidays” events, benefiting charities in celebration of the holidays.

Each Saturday through December 20 will feature performers, musical activities, and events for area families and music enthusiasts alike. A percentage of net proceeds from each Saturday event will be donated to two music-focused charitable organizations that help children:

Keysprogram.org is an upstate New York organization that provides music therapy for terminally ill children, children with cancer, disabilities, serious injuries, and serious illnesses.

Kids Empowered by Your Support (KEYS), a Darien-based arts enrichment program that provides private violin and piano lessons, and instruments, to children whose families cannot afford them.

On Saturday, December 6, Fender Guitar fans are invited to demo the legendary guitars all day. Creative Music Center is among the select few authorized Fender vendors in Fairfield County, and the public is encouraged to take advantage of special savings.

A free gift will be presented to the first 50 people in the door, and the store is offering a cash-back promotion with every guitar purchase. That plan is based on a minimum purchase amount of $100 or more, with instant cash rebates up to $50.

Saturday, December 13, is Family and Friends Sing-Along day at noon. Families are invited to sing together in a holiday atmosphere. Sheet music, instrumental background music, and snacks will be provided. Then, at 2:30 pm, Santa Claus will appear with gifts for all, and will pose with participants for photos.

Saturday, December 20, Creative Music is hosting a “Fastest Drummer” contest with special guest, former Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto. Entrants can sign up to compete online at www.TheCreativeMusicCenter.com. Competitors’ drumming speeds will be measured by an official “Drumometer,” a device that measures hand speed. Then, at 4 pm, Liberty DeVitto will conduct a drumming clinic for all.
