Car Vs Pole

Motorist Soto-Vargas Edel, 28, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Lincoln LS eastward on High Bridge Road about 8:30 am December 1, when while coming around a corner, he lost control of the auto, spun sideways and struck a utility pole along the left side of the street, police said.

Edel was not injured. Police issued him an infraction on charges of traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

Evading Responsibility

A local man left his 2008 Honda Civic sedan in the parking lot at Caraluzzi’s Market at 5 Queen Street from about 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on November 24, after which he returned and found that another vehicle had damaged the front passenger side of the Honda, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact investigating Officer William Chapman at the police station at 426-5841.

Multiple Charges

State police last week charged Ian V. Guilfoil, 18, of Copper Creek Circle with three counts of risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor, and also with one count of second-degree reckless endangerment.

State police said Guilfoil turned himself over to them at Troop A in Southbury after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest based on their investigation into the unspecified incident which prompted the charges.

Guilfoil was released on $1,000 bail for a December 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Road Rage

State police report a road rage incident on eastbound Interstate 84 that occurred about 2:40 pm November 28.

The case remains under investigation, state police said. There were no injuries.

The incident involved motorists Christopher Kachur, 44, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Ford Edge SUV; motorist Judd Baggett, 17, of 26 Hall Lane, who was driving a 1999 Volvo V-70; and the unspecified driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which is registered to New England Landscaping and Management of Ridgefield, state police said.

State police said the drivers of the Chevrolet and the Volvo “were involved in some type of road rage… incident on I-84 eastbound at the Exit 10 on-ramp in Newtown.”

The Volvo stopped for the Chevrolet, which had stopped in the right-center lanes, state police said.

After the driver of the Chevrolet got out of the vehicle and approached the Volvo, the Volvo driver put the Volvo in reverse to get away from the Chevrolet driver, state police said.

In backing up, the Volvo struck the front end of the Ford, state police said. The Chevrolet driver then fled the scene. State police cited Baggett, who was driving the Volvo, for unsafe backing.

State police said the driver of the Chevrolet has been located and charges are being pursued against that person.
