A Generous Response
A Generous Response
To The Editor:
The response to your recent article concerning low food pantry supplies was overwhelming. Our Social Services Department at 3 Main Street houses the Salvation Army Food Pantry, which is used weekly by many Newtown families. High demand had depleted most of our supply when your article was published.
We have witnessed a steady stream of generous people who have read your article and answered the call to help. Some come in with a single bag of food and some have brought truckloads. Some bring cash donations or checks to purchase food. Many are donating their Big Y coins after reading that our donation box has been removed from the store.
At times our office is busy when donors come in, and we donât have the appropriate time to show our appreciation. We cannot thank you enough. (Thank you to the lady in the green jacket who came in while I was on the phone.)
Hopefully town residents now realize that there are two food pantries in Newtown. The Salvation Army Food Pantry is located in the Social Services office in the lower level of Town Hall South (police department building). The FAITH Food Pantry is located at St Johnâs Church in Sandy Hook. Our organizations work together to assure that no Newtown residents are without food or necessities.
Remember that food pantries serve our clients year round. Your help is needed and appreciated at any time.
Sincerely yours,
Joanne Klopfenstein
