Scholastic, Incorporated Honored As ‘Family Friendly’

DANBURY — Danbury Children First and Mayor Mark Boughton recently presented Scholastic, Incorporated with the 2003 Family-Friendly Workplace Award at a special breakfast Tuesday, December 9.

“We found that Scholastic’s emergency childcare policies, flexible scheduling, and benefits of part-time workers made them the frontrunner for this award,” said Linda Kosko, collaborative director at Danbury Children First.

Greg Worrell, president, Scholastic Library Publishing, and George Saul, president, Scholastic at Home, accepted the award.

“Scholastic has an 83-year history of helping children both learn to read and love to read,” said Mr Worrell.

This is the second year that Danbury Children First has presented the award to recognize a local company for outstanding family-friendly business practices and benefits program. Last year, Cendant Mobility received the award.

The event’s featured speaker will be Phyllis E. Nobile, director, The Reading Company. Ms Nobile is an award-winning educator and recipient of the Reading Educator of the Year award for excellence in reading and learning instruction. She will discuss the importance of parental involvement in education following an introduction by Danbury Superintendent of Schools Edward Davis.
