POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAMS â Welcome to the Teen Zone, for parents of middle and high school students, will begin on January 18. Perfect for parents trying to understand the ups and downs, ins and outs, and doâs and donâts of parenting a teen or almost teen. This is a five-week session and the fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple, which includes all material.

Change Of Time And Day

POSITIVE PARENTING FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS is a new course for parents. To better serve the needs of parents, the time and day have been altered. This course will now run Mondays, 9 am. Additional dates are December 18, January 8, 22, February 5, 26, March 5, 19, April 2, 23, 30, May 14, and June 4. The fee is $25 per person or $35 per couple. This includes all materials and applies for the whole year, as this is an on-going program. All are welcome at any time.

It is necessary to pre-register for all parenting courses.

4-H Clubs â On-Going

Fourth and fifth grades continue to meet on Monday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:30. Middle School grades meet on Wednesdays from 4 to 5:15. Both groups will meet at NYS. Membership is free but space is limited. For additional information or to register, please call the office.

Youth Group Meetings

The High School Youth Advisory Board (YAB) will be holding a silent auction of baskets filled with wonderful treasures from hair and skin products to gourmet food items. Baskets will be on display at the Booth Library and other locations around town. The proceeds will benefit the YAB Scholarship Fund. The raffle drawing will be held on December 20. Reminder â There will be a âwrapping presents meetingâ on Monday, December 11, at 5:30 pm.

Middle School Youth Advisory Board (Ms YAB) will meet on Wednesday, December 11, AT NEWTOWN YOUTH SERVICES at 5:30 pm. We will join the HSYAB for a wrapping party of our adopted familyâs gifts. Pizza and soda will be served so please let Mrs Loring know if you will be able to participate. Please check YAB bulletin boards for additional details.

NYCAAP â Will meet on Tuesday, December 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Membership in the above groups is free and new members are welcome at all times. For additional info please call the NYS office.

Super Sitters

Due to the popularity of this program, another session will be added. Those dates will be Tuesday, April 23, 30, and May 7, 14, and 21. The fee is $25 and includes all materials. Snacks are always provided. If interested, please sign up quickly as all other sessions for the year are full.

Why Gun Violence Is Higher In The US

I want to clarify something that was not clear in my letter. Newtown DOES have an affordable housing plan, put together with the aid of the Council of Governments (COG) in 2022 and approved by the LC that year. The strategies in that plan are to "encourage", "support", "explore", "promote" various aspects of state and local affordable housing programs. Those strategies are largely repeated in the Housing Chapter of the Plan of Conservation and Development being finalized now. Newtown needs to measure its performance against those strategies and refine them to reflect the current situation and evaluate whether we are eligible for a moratorium on 8-30(g) projects if we have met the criteria. It's a question of being more specific and more rigorous in what we as a community would like to see to address this real and serious need, rather than to be on our heels when a developer proposes a project on their terms. An independent look outside the application process would be best for that. Thank you. Peter.

Discusses Affordable Housing

I on Glover Ave. walk my two Labs every morning and evening. Drivers are constantly cutting me off at the shopping center entrance and other driveways. There is no understanding of pedestrians rights. Drives make left turns onto Queen when its forbidden. Most cars cruse right thru the crosswalks without stopping for pedestrians. The Police have not issued one citation nor even a warming for crosswalk violations. The situation is out of control and now a loved resident, Pete, and a pet, Coby have been killed. Time for a plan. The problem is not Intersections, nor traffic, the problem 98s drivers and lack of enforcement. The plan need to create a culture that drivers obey speed limits and honor pedestrians right of ways. Isn't that the job of the Police Department and The Police Commission, to protect Newtowns citizens. This is a call to action.

Its already too late, the Nimby mob have scared developers so that their only option is to use the state wide 8-30 exemption to get around the local zoning board. Thanks Nimby mob.
