Newtown Continuing Education announced it has limited openings available in the following classes. Contact Newtown Continuing Education at 203-426-1787 for further information or to express interest in a program.

The Return Of Beautiful Bellies — Belly Dancing: A six-class course starting on January 8, being offered from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, for a fee of $59. Strengthen the core, sculpt the trunk, arms, and legs while learning the basics of Middle Eastern belly dance. Basic choreography along with pop music and traditional Middle Eastern music will be offered. Hip scarves will be provided. Attendees are asked to wear work-out clothes and bring two to three pound weights.

Cardio Calorie Blast: A 12-class course, offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, for a fee of $89. The class will help attendees get fit and relieve stress. Increase energy with an uplifting and upbeat class that will provide three exercises in one. The efficient and effective workout will include aerobics, toning exercises, and yoga stretching. The class utilizes the latest fitness principles to maximize calorie and fat burning, in addition to ways to increase the intensity of exercise. All levels of fitness are welcome. Low-impact, low-intensity exercises, and modifications to exercises will be demonstrated. Wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights, 3 pounds for beginners, 5 pounds or more for advanced. The course is being offered in two sessions, one starting January 27 and one starting March 17.

Totally Toned: A six-class course, offered on Thursdays, from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm, for a fee of $59. Each class will include a warm-up, toning exercises utilizing handheld weights, or the body’s own resistance and stretching. This course will help tone up and increase metabolism by increasing muscle cells. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Bring bottled water, an exercise or yoga mat, and a pair of hand weights to each class, 3 pounds for beginners, 5 pounds or more for advanced. The course is being offered in two sessions, with one starting January 2 and one starting February 19.

Yoga Stretch With Missy: A ten-class course, offered on Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, starting January 7, for a $100 fee. Unwind from a stress-filled day with a relaxing evening of yoga. Transform from tense and tight to mellow and limber. This yoga practice is designed to lengthen and stretch breath. Take the time to truly be in the moment. Wear sweatpants and bring an exercise or yoga mat. A yoga strap and a yoga block are optional.

Practical Excel — A Hands-On Approach: A one-time class being offered on December 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, for a fee of $20. This one night class offers an opportunity to practice Microsoft Excel skills. Attendees will be given Excel examples of varying difficulties and time to develop any of the sample spreadsheets on their own. The instructor will provide guidance and help as needed during class time.

Advanced Excel — Pivot Tables: A one-time class being offered on December 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, for a fee of $20. Pivot Tables are a very powerful tool for arranging, analyzing, and summarizing tables of data in Microsoft Excel. They can save time and work and give insights into data that are otherwise too hard to discover. The class will offer the opportunity to see how Pivot Tables can be used and a chance to work through an example.
