James Bucur
James Eugene Bucur, known as “Jim” to friends and family, passed away on November 27, 2024, in Danbury, after an arduous battle with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma, having been diagnosed in March of this year.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan; his daughters, Samantha and Jamie; and his sisters, Pamela Bucur-Arevalo and Wendy Halpern.
Jim was born on October 31, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, and adopted by Gene and Naoma Bucur. He was raised in Stamford, and studied at Westhill High School, graduating in 1979.
Jim was a passionate and enthusiastic man who enjoyed his work as Systems Engineer at STG Inc. Even after he had retired, Jim would happily share his knowledge and skill with any technologically-challenged soul; namely his beloved friend and father-in-law, Edward Finerty Jr.
Jim loved learning new skills and was a man of many talents, resulting in a plethora of nicknames to correspond. He was known as “KC10V0” to his fellow ham radio enthusiasts, “The Phixxer” when he donned his IT and handyman hats, and recently his masterful carpentry skills earned him the title of “The Wood Gnome of Sandy Hook.”
Together, Jim, Sue, Sam and Jamie built their very own family business — New Insights Metaphysical Boutique in Sandy Hook Village. Here Jim’s love and craftsmanship can be found in every nook and cranny.
Jim was a selfless gentleman with a kind soul that touched so many lives. His great loves in life were his family, fishing and exploring in his canoe on Lake Zoar, listening to music, playing the Doobie Brothers on his guitar, cruising the neighborhood on his e-bike, and tinkering in his workshop. He had a keen sense of humor and the treasured ability to conjure laughter even in the most somber of times. He really was “the last true family man.”
Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, Daddy, Smook — Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for ever and ever.
A very special thank you to Danbury Hospital, the Sandy Hook Community, and friends of the Bucur Family for their valiant support, efforts, and dedication to make Jim’s final months the best they could be.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be announced at a later date.
Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, is serving the family.
