Exhibitions, Artist Demo And One-Day Show & Sale All On SCAN’s December Schedule
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has multiple events planned this month, including two already ongoing.
The artists’ collective has two presentations currently on view at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. Both are on view until the end of the month.
The first, “Unmasked,” opened in early November in the first floor meeting room.
The second show, “December Offerings,” is a separate collection of works on view in the Entry Hallway, adjacent to the meeting room and just inside the building’s lower entrances.
Artist’s Demo
SCAN is planning to host Anda Styler for a demonstration in acrylic on Wednesday, December 8, at 1:30 pm. Styler plans to paint a landscape on an aluminum surface.
The program will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.
The public is invited, and admission is free. The program is open only to those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however.
Styler is an acclaimed artist who has received numerous awards and recognition for her work as a painter. In 2007 she created large paintings that are now part of the permanent collection at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
In May 2013 her work was the front cover of Dan’s Papers of Southampton, N.Y. Her work is also in the book The Best of Acrylic Painting (2014), and the book Captivating Color (April 2017), both published by North Light Publications.
In September 2014 she was chosen from over 2,100 entrants in the Excellence Competition in Southwest Art magazine as the top 75 painters.
A popular teacher, Styler conducts workshops focusing on the power of light and shadow in the landscape with a limited color palette. For many years Styler painted on location; currently she paints both in and out of the studio. She continues to explore subject matter, but is especially drawn to the magic of the landscape.
Holiday Works Show & Sale
Also this month, SCAN is planning a One-Day Small Works Art Show & Sale.
The event will be offered Saturday, December 18, from 10 am to 4 pm, in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House.
Small, original artwork, all 11-by-14 inches or smaller, will be offered by members for purchase at “very reasonable prices,” organizers promise.
