NHS Dance Team Welcomed At Dance Etc
As her first year as coach for the Newtown High School Dance Team, Cheryl Stenz said on Monday, November 29, practicing at Dance Etc, 117 Mt Pleasant Road, instead of NHS provides an area with full-length mirrors for practices.
Since practicing inside at Newtown High School was an unavailable option this year with construction underway for the schoolâs expansion and renovation project, Ms Stenz said she contacted Dance Etc, and the school for performing arts opened its doors for the team.
Ms Stenz said, âIt just worked out.â
The team has been practicing at Dance Etc since the start of the school year, and pays a minimal fee for the space. For team captains Lindsay McCoy and Morghan Moroney (captain Eva Rojo was not present for practice on Monday), practicing at Dance Etc is also nice, because both girls take classes at Dance Etc after practicing for the dance team.
This is the first year the dance team is a full team in the NHS Athletic Department, according to Ms Stenz. Until this school year, the team was considered a club at the school.
âTheyâre a great group of girls,â said Ms Stenz.
Lindsay said transitioning from a club to a team made her feel like the team has more support within the school, and Morghan agreed. With work on Newtown High Schoolâs gymnasium set for completion shortly, the team will transition to practicing at the high school for the first time as a team, not a club.
On Monday, the students practiced for their upcoming performance at the 26th Annual Ram Pasture Tree Lighting, beginning at 6:30 pm, on Friday, December 3, sponsored by the Newtown Chamber of Commerce.
