Mitten Tree Installed

In Police Station Lobby

The Newtown Police Department is conducting its tenth annual “Mitten Tree” gift collection project for the holiday season.

A Christmas tree, known as the Mitten Tree, has been set up in the police station lobby in the upper level of Town Hall South at 3 Main Street.

Police are seeking donations of new hats, mittens, and scarves to be left at the Mitten Tree for distribution to needy adults and children in Newtown and the surrounding area.

Donated items may be left at the tree around the clock, seven days a week, from now until January 1, according to Officer Maryhelen McCarthy, who coordinates the project.
