The True Spirit Of Thanksgiving
The True Spirit Of Thanksgiving
To the Editor:
For the third year in a row, the people of Newtown and the surrounding communities have opened their hearts to demonstrate the true spirit of Thanksgiving. If numbers are important, and sometimes they are, over 600 meals were prepared and delivered over the holidays (over 60 were served or delivered on Thanksgiving from St Roseâs Parish Hall). The volunteers came from everywhere, numbering 169. We truly outnumbered those that came from Danbury on the bus or by their cars but there was a spirit in the hall that made everyone feel good on this day.
We would like to thank everyone that volunteered on this day. If you cut one piece of pie or served one meal â it meant something and hopefully you felt the joy.
A special thanks for the contribution goes to Lou at Georgeâs Restaurant (who cooked the entire dinner for those that came to the hall and for those that we delivered at their homes), to Chartwells (Tom Burke, Jackie and Virginia) and Newtown High School (James Young, who allowed us the use of their kitchen facilities and personnel to cook to dinners that were delivered to the various facilities in Danbury, Newtown, and Bridgeport), to the Newtown Health District, which rolled up its sleeves to make sure that the food was prepared and served in a healthy manner, to Bagel Delight for its continued support in our activities, to Just A Buck for its contributions of the âthingsâ needed to succeed, to the leadership of Mr and Mrs Frank Middleton, Len Moritz, John Moulder, Lisa Boff, and Rose West, and the sponsorship and support of our houses of worship â Father Bob Weiss, Rabbi Praver and Rev Steve Gordon.
We expect to have a similar event for Christmas.
So on behalf of the Knights of Columbus and our Grand Knight Len Moritz, we wish all a very happy holiday season.
