Holiday Oratorio By Percussion Ensemble

DANBURY — On Monday, December 6, WCSU music professor Dr David Smith will conduct the largest percussion ensemble ever assembled at Western CT State University.

Nineteen percussionists and one pianist will present an eclectic program to include Alexander Lepak’s Quintet for Percussion, Windstone Suite by Jared Spears, and Michael Udow’s African Welcome Piece.

Also featured will be Jonathan Kellis’ unique arrangement of Dave Brubeck’s “La Fiesta de las Posada,” which will offer a percussion interpretation of a Christmas oratorio originally written for chorus and orchestra.

Admission is free; donations will benefit the university’s music department. The concert will be in WCSU White Hall’s Ives Concert Hall, at the corner of White Street and Fifth Avenue. Call 837-8350 for additional information.
