NAMI Gathering To Discuss Legislative Agenda
NAMI Gathering To Discuss Legislative Agenda
FAIRFIELD âNAMI Connecticut â a chapter of the the National Alliance on Mental Illness â and its local affiliates are charged with the responsibility of providing support, education, and advocacy for people living with mental illness and their families. One of the most important ways they do this is by maintaining a strong and effective Public Policy Committee on the state level.
It is the committeeâs job to determine NAMIâs yearly legislative priorities with which to lobby the state legislature.
On Wednesday, December 7, at NAMI Fairfieldâs First Wednesday of the Month Speaker Meeting, Tom Burr of the NAMI CT Public Policy Staff will present the 2011-2012 legislative update, a summary of upcoming advocacy trainings, and other current advocacy issues. He will discuss how the priorities are determined and what this yearâs priorities are.
In addition, NAMI CT wants to hear from members of the community about the issues they are facing day-to-day navigating the mental health system and access services in the state.
This input is vital in making sure the needs of those living with mental illness and their families are addressed.
The meeting will be held in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, from 7:30 to 9 pm. It is open to the public and free of charge.
Light refreshments will be served. For more information call 203-650-3463.
