Decorating The Sandy Hook Tree

Swinging a string of colored bulbs toward the tree top 30 feet above Washington Avenue, Keven Belden hung Christmas lights Tuesday morning in Sandy Hook Center.

Despite a dreary morning drizzle, he and Jeff Thomas untangled strands of holiday lights and a star for the tree that will cast a rainbow of festive light following this Saturday’s annual tree lighting ceremony.

Festivities for the annual tree lighting in Sandy Hook Center will begin around dusk at 4 pm, when members of Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) host open house events in their businesses. The tree lighting is at 6:30 pm. Find details about holiday-related events on page 1.

Eye-to-eye with the treetop, Mr Belden took a few minutes to set the star in place while Mr Thomas stood across the street to signal when the star sat straight. Soon the rainy weather prompted the two to drop the day’s decorating for a dryer moment.
