The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance will present the traditional holiday classic Nutcracker in its entire splendor at The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts for three performances on Saturday, December 10, at 2 and 7 pm, and Sunday, December 11, at 2 pm.
Nutcracker will feature area dancers, guest artists from the Hartt School Dance Department of the University of Hartford, Ridgefield resident and tenor William Joyner (who has lent his operatic voice worldwide), and Ridgefield Town Selectman Di Masters.
Nutcracker in Ridgefield, a growing holiday tradition for years, always amazes both first time audiences and those who cannot get enough of a traditional story told in dance. The production features an energetic battle scene, rife with marching toy soldiers and menacing mice plus gems for ballet enthusiasts including the rare Snow Pas de Deux and the Grand Sugar Plum Pas de Deux.
Highlighting the two Pas de Deux this year will be two male dancers from the Hartt School. Ridgefield resident Mark Gillis, formerly with the Festival Ballet of Rhode Island and Louisville Ballet, will re-create his role as Drosselmeyer. Peter Nevin of Ridgefield, a professional dancer who trains at the Conservatory, will re-create his breathtaking performances as the Toy Soldier and Lead Trepak.
Other dancers in the production come from Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Ridgefield and Wilton, along dancers who reside in South Salem, Cross River, Waccabuc, Holmes, Carmel and Poughquag, N.Y.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 seniors and students. Discounted students tickets, at $15, will be available for the Saturday matinee.
