Local Funding Groups Launch

Nonprofit Resource Center

DANBURY — Nonprofit groups now have a common place to share information and connect to critical resources. The newly created Greater Danbury Nonprofit Resource Center (GDNRC) offers a free online information center.

The site, www.GDNRC.org, was created to increase communication between nonprofit agencies and to increase access to information and resources.

“The nonprofit community provided a great deal of input into the creation of this website. Many of the suggestions made by the agencies were incorporated into the site,” said Elaine Mintz, GDNRC manager.

The website offers information about local funders, agencies, and a community events calendar.

“The idea for the calendar was suggested as a way to help nonprofits in the planning of their events [to avoid conflicts]. By checking the calendar agencies can decide when is the best time to plan their own events. This can maximize their fundraising potential,” said Ms Mintz. The calendar also provides grant information with a quick way for agencies to check when grant applications are due.

The website also includes listserv, email announcements, and a community bulletin board. “We really wanted the website to make it easier for agencies to communicate to each other,” said Ms Mintz.

The Greater Danbury Nonprofit Resource Center exists to support the nonprofit community in Northern Fairfield County. Its objectives are to increase communication among nonprofits, increase access to information and resources, and improve performance and community impact. GDNRC was designed to support existing capacity-building initiatives within the nonprofit community and to provide new resources that have been requested by the community.

GDNRC is a project of the Greater Danbury Funders’ Group capacity building initiative serving the communities of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman.

GDNRC is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, Danbury Hospital, Fairfield County Community Foundation, General Electric Company, Newtown Savings Bank, Pitney Bowes, Savings Bank of Danbury, Union Savings Bank, and the United Way of Northern Fairfield County.
