Flagpole Photographers Celebrate Book
& Nature; Plan For Logo Contest
During its November meeting at C.H. Booth Library, Flagpole Photographers president John Tucci noted that several of the clubâs members have images appearing in the Newtown Tercentennial Committee book, Newtown 2005, which was released on November 26.
The members then discussed new ideas and directions for the club to explore. A subcommittee was formed to consider the possibility of new contests and rules, auction of club prints, procuring a light box, critiquing all images, having LED judging equipment, and organizing field trips.
Members enjoyed a slide presentation by professional photographer Michael Loring of Southbury, whose work includes portraits as well as images of birds, insects, and architecture. Beautifully detailed fine-art images result from his creative vision and imaginative use of camera and light.Â
Mr Loring also briefly showed some of his impressive photographic equipment and answered membersâ questions before moving on to judge the membersâ submitted images.
The winning images for November were as follows: first place, âReflectingâ by Anne Eigen; second, âThe Broom Shopâ by Jill Baimel; third, âMoth Orchidsâ by Ed Siciliano; and honorable mentions, âWhite Birchâ by Bob Berthier and âAutumn Abstractâ by Anne Eigen.
The next two meetings have been scheduled, and the public is reminded that non-members are always welcome to join the club for its meetings.
The next meeting, the club holiday party, will be held on December 9 at the library at 6:30 pm.
Members will bring food for a buffet and grab bag gifts.
In lieu of the regular competition there will be a Club Logo Design Contest. The purpose of the contest is to create a new logo for the club, which will help to identify club members. Ultimately the logo will be made into a club patch.
Members will submit their designs and winners will be picked by a majority vote of the club members present at the holiday party. Cash prizes will also be awarded, with $50 for first place, $25 for second place, and $10 for third place.
The clubâs first meeting of the new year will then take place on Thursday, January 19, at 7:30 pm.
The contest subject will be âTexture - Prints.â
The Flagpole Photographers Club, a non-profit organization, meets regularly on the third Thursday of every month, except during the summer. It is a great place to enhance and practice photographic skills and learn about the latest technologies.]
Family and guests are always welcome. Membership is $20 and is open to anyone with an interest in photography, regardless of level of experience.
High school students can join for free.
