*Al’s Trail and Beyond: Newtown artist Pat Barkman will have an exhibition of her recent watercolors on the main floor of the library beginning this weekend and remaining on view until New Year’s Eve.

The main thrust of Mrs Barkman’s collection will be her works depicting scenes along Al’s Trial, the ten-mil hiking trail in Newtown. The exhibition will also include recent watercolors of other natural scenes.

The public is invited to meet Mrs Barkman while viewing her work during an opening reception on Sunday, November 27, between 2 and 4 pm.

Children’s Programs

*Children’s Holiday Craft Workshop: Marie Walker will conduct a Holiday craft workshop on Saturday, December 10, from 1 to 2 pm for children ages 6 and up.

A $3 material fee is due upon registration. Sign up in the children’s department.

*Holiday Concert: The Connecticut Opera will perform “Deck the Halls,” songs of the season, on Saturday, December 10, at 3 pm.

This program of seasonal favorites, traditional carols and Hanukkah songs is sure to delight children and adults of all ages. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis.

*Gingerbread House Workshop: Our popular gingerbread house workshop will take place on Saturday, December 17, from 3 to 4 pm, for children ages 4-10.

Each child will make their own creation with graham crackers, royal icing and a variety of festive candies.

Registration is required. A $3 material fee will help defray expenses.

For Young Adults

*Let’s talk about Hush by Jacqueline Woodson. Our next Young Adult book discussion will be on Wednesday, December 14, from 4 to 5 pm, in The Story Room.

When her father witnesses a murder, Toswiah Green and her family must go into the witness protection program. It is hard enough as a teen to figure out who you are without being told to become someone else!

These monthly book discussions for readers in grades 5-9 are co-sponsored by Reed Intermediate School. Books are available at both libraries.
