PHS Jazz Band, Hanukkah Concert

At Love & Knishes Lunches

SOUTHBURY — Two spirited musical performances and an important lecture are on the menu for all area adults aged 60 and over who are welcome to enjoy lunch and entertainment on Tuesdays at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program of the Federation-Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut. The programs take place in the social hall at Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

Lunch is freshly prepared each week by personal chef Heather Bingham and features healthful, delicious meals with everything from salad through dessert. Lunch is served at noon and programs start at 1 pm.

On December 5, the Pomperaug High School Jazz Band’s talented students will serenade diners during a “jazzalicious” lunch featuring favorite old standards and some great new pieces. Under the baton of Bob D’Angelo, the school’s finest musicians always delight their audiences with their skill, musicianship, and interpretations of beloved tunes.

On December 12, Medicare Part D Drug Coverage 2007 will be discussed by Eric Freedman of the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging. He will answer questions and help with the plan finder.

In addition, a computer-equipped bus from the Connecticut Department of Social Services will be available from 1 to 4 pm to help seniors evaluate and choose their drug plan. A list of medications should be brought along.

On December 19, a Hanukkah concert with singer and guitarist Mark Levy will rounds out the year. Mr Levy hails from San Francisco, and this will be his third appearance in Southbury. His music showcases tunes from many countries and eras, and he sings in English, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Ladino.

Lunch reservations should be made by Friday for the following week. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $5.50 for seniors. To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 267-3177, extension 105.
