Free Arthritis Seminar

Set In Trumbull

TRUMBULL — The Arthritis Foundation is co-sponsoring a free seminar on new treatments for arthritis and new technologies for joint replacements, Thursday, December 14, 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, at the Marriott in Trumbull. Two companies, Styker and its affiliated Physiotherapy Associates, are co-sponsoring the seminar for people with arthritis or chronic joint pain.

Orthopedic surgeon Robert T. Deveney, MD, of Danbury Orthopedic Associates, will provide an overview of arthritis and review new treatments and technologies. Jenny Braddock, PT, OCS, from Physiotherapy Associates will review how physical therapy can help in the treatment of arthritis.

She will also introduce a new program to help golfers with arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation will present an overview of how its education, self-help, and exercise services can help people learn to control the impact of pain and stiffness from arthritis on their daily activities.

Osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis, the most common type, occurs when the cartilage and underlying bone in the joint degenerates, according to the Arthritis Foundation. This process causes pain, stiffness, and mobility problems with the affected joints. An estimated 21 million Americans have osteoarthritis. This disease is chronic and progressive, but there are effective treatments.

Osteoarthritis may even be prevented in some cases. This seminar is made possible by an educational grant to the Arthritis Foundation from Stryker.

To register for the seminar, contact the Arthritis Foundation, 800-541-8350 or info.sne@arthritis.org.
