To the Editor:

The local unit of the Salvation Army needs all available individuals, as well as local civic, religious, neighborhood groups, and others to join us and our current volunteers to help make this holiday season a joyous one for all in Newtown. We are kicking off the Red Kettle season on December 8 and it will continue for that weekend and the weekend of December 15-16. You can sign up with the SignUpGenius link: signupgenius.com/go/70A0F45AAAE2FA7FB6-46099494-salvation.

The Congregational Church of Newtown, the Newtown Lions Club and the Newtown Rotary Club currently participate and we would love to have others join us this year.

We will be ringing in one hour time slots the weekends of December 8-9 and 15-16 at the following locations: Stop & Shop, Yankee Wine & Liquor, Dunkin’ Donuts, Newtown General Store, Walgreens and Bagel Delight.

The local unit of the Salvation Army in partnership with the Newtown Human Services Department address emergency needs of Newtown residents. Last year our Red Kettle collections raised over $10,000. This money helps to address the needs of our friends and neighbors in Newtown that need help. This year with the rising costs of basic needs like energy, car expenses, and food the need is even greater. If you want more information or have any questions, please email us at newtownringers@yahoo.com. If you cannot help ring you can make an online donation using the following link salarmy.us/NewtownRedKettle.

Thank you and I wish you a joyful holiday season.
