uAbby Atkinson (NHS ’05) won the 400 individual medley ‘B’ final in 4:39.38 and helped lead the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team to a third-place finish at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational back on November 18. Atkinson also finished fifth in the 200 backstroke at 2:11.16 and helped lead the 400 freestyle relay team to a seventh-place finish. James Madison, Towson, Binghamton and The College of New Jersey competed at the Invitational. Bucknell returns to the pool on Friday at the Princeton Invitational.

uThe Wake Forest men’s soccer team earned a No. 2 seed and a bye for the 2007 NCAA tournament and began second round play on Wednesday at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons (17-2-2) faced the winner of the Campbell (15-5-3) and Furman (18-3-0) matchup. The Deacs lead the all-time series with the Paladins 8-6-4 and lead Campbell 4-0-0. The Demon Deacons are making their 12th appearance and seventh consecutive. Last season, Wake defeated Hofstra, Towson and Santa Clara, earning the Demon Deacons’ first-ever NCAA semifinal appearance, yet fell to eventual NCAA Champion UC Santa Barbara. In 21 games, Marcus Tracy (NHS ’05) has eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. Tracy has a pair of game-winning goals on the season, the second coming in a 1-0 overtime win over North Carolina in the second round of the ACC Tournament on November 16.

uAfter three consecutive losses, the Michigan State football team regained some respect with a 35-31 win over Penn State on November 17. Josh Rouse (Valley Forge Military Academy ‘06) made another appearance for the Spartans.

uThe DePauw University women’s swimming & diving team scored 465.5 points and finished second to Wheaton at the Wabash Invitational on November 17 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Sally Tabler (NHS ’07) finished second in the 200 butterfly at 2:18.23, fifth in the 400 individual medley at 4:52.71, and fourth in the 200 breaststroke at 2:38.25. The Tigers will host the DePauw Invitational on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1. After the Wabash Invitational, DePauw improved to 4-1 on the season with a sweep of Transylvania (148-75) and Wheaton (111-100). The Tigers opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with Tabler helping the squad finish in 1:52.48. She also finished third in the 100 butterfly at 1:02.75 and third in the 500 freestyle at 5:33.68.

uThe most successful season in Montclair State men’s soccer history ended on Sunday in the rain as the Red Hawks fell to three-time defending national champion Messiah College, 1-0, in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III Soccer Championship. The loss was MSU’s first since October 13, snapping a six-game winning streak as Montclair, which advanced further in the NCAAs than it ever had before, ends the season at 19-3-1. Brian Miles (NHS ’05) was a staple of the Red Hawks defense and finished with a goal and five assists. His only goal was a game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Rowan University back on September 15.

uTierney Carey (NHS ’05) finished second in the one-meter diving with 131.45 points and then first in the three-meter diving with 201.75 points as the Saint Michael’s College women’s swimming and diving team crushed Colby-Sawyer, 210-90, back on November 10. At the Bentley Invitational on October 28, Carey was third in the one-meter diving with 190.95 and third in the three-meter diving with 181.85 points. The Purple Knights will be at the NE-10 championships at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven Friday through Sunday.

uZack Schwartz (NHS ’07) of the Brandeis University men’s cross country team finished 106th overall at 26:43.08 at the Division III Northeast Regional in New London on November 10. Brandeis finished ninth out of 47 teams.

uJess Halloran (NHS ’07) played 83 minutes (in two games) in goal for the Savannah College of Art & Design women’s soccer team this fall and allowed only one goal while registering three saves for the 12-4-1 Lady Bees. The Bees made the finals of NAIA Region XIV tournament, but dropped a 1-0 decision to Northwood (Florida). In the second round of the NAIA national tournament, the Bees fell, 3-1, to Saint Xavier University.
