At State Open
Once again, it was Greenwich and Cheshire High Schools fighting for the No. 1 spot at the CIAC State Open swimming & diving championships and, once again, it was Newtown High School trying to make a splash.
Greenwich won the State Open with 611.5 points and Cheshire followed a distant second at 480 points. The Lady Nighthawks, meanwhile, finished 46th with 13 points.
Weston was the top South-West Conference team at the Opens, finishing 11th with 179 points. Lauralton Hall (14th), Pomperaug (19th), New Fairfield (24th), Stratford (28th), Brookfield (30th) and Masuk (36th) also performed well.
The Newtown 200 freestyle relay foursome of Emma Atkinson, Lucy Remitz, Annie Hull and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk scored eight points when it finished 21st overall at 1:45.97, a drop of nearly half a second off the seed time. Van Waalwijk also grabbed 20th in the 100 freestyle at 56.08, scoring five points in the process.
