Running Club Runs Well

The newly-formed Hawks Running Club, open to students from fourth to eighth grade, enjoyed a successful cross country season under coach Eileen Fish. The team ran in the Wickham Invitational, where Erin Begg finished 21st, and then in the Middle School state championships, where Peter Ovendorf finished 81st and Begg finished 85th. At the USATF state championships, Molly Begg finished ninth, Kelly Coughlin finished 19th and Chris Manfredi finished 21st and all three qualified to run in the New England Regional on Long Island. The team – run under the auspices of the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department – is now gearing up for the spring track program beginning in April.
