Rotary To Serve Up Pancakes And Amber Alerts
The Rotary Club of Newtown will be serving its annual pancake breakfast in the Alexandria Room at Edmund Town Hall on Saturday, December 1, from 8 am to 1 pm. Ticket prices for this all-you-can-eat fundraiser are $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under, and can be purchased at the door.
âThis is the 47th year in a row that the Rotary Club has sponsored this event,â said Rotary Club president Dick Sturdevant. âComing to Pancake Day has become an important holiday tradition for many people in Newtown,â he added.
Along with pancakes, Rotary is offering a significant addition to anyone who comes to Edmond Town Hall. Teaming up with the Danbury Rotary Club, Newtown Rotary will make available the latest technology to the Amber Alert Program.
With this new system, parents can have a digital color photo of each of their children imbedded on a wallet-sized plastic card along with minimal yet essential information needed to help find a child that becomes lost or is abducted. In addition to the card, strongly encrypted computer data, not connected to the Internet or any other system, can be accessed by the state police to assist in finding a missing child.
âWe are very pleased that United Studios for Self Defense and Excel Tutoring, both fine Newtown businesses, have agreed to sponsor this Rotary Amber Kids ID Session,â said Mr Sturdevant. âThese businesses are making it possible for anyone with children to receive an Amber ID card at no cost.â
Attendance at the Pancake Breakfast is not required to receive an Amber ID card.
