In The Season Of Red, White, And Green
In The Season Of
Red, White, And Green
To the Editor:
In the upcoming season of merriment, Newtown is always engaged in the memorable Christmas tree lighting, the flawless snow on Ramâs Pasture, and smoke rising from the chimneys on Main Street. Itâs the time of giving, cheer, and felicity. In this season of giving, I ask the citizens of Newtown to think green.
As a senior student of Newtown High School, I witness both students and faculty throwing away recyclable materials on a daily basis. Recycling should be mandatory. As a member of Newtownâs ecology club, we have found that within the high school, students and faculty throw away four (plus) garbage bags of recyclables on a daily basis. These materials should be reused and utilized. But, they simply arenât. On this note, I ask the people of Newtown with a âgreenâ mentality that will only benefit our community.
I ask our community to facilitate our school systems in the establishment of a more environmentally friendly atmosphere. Hopefully Newtown, as well as other Connecticut towns, will gain governmental funding to grant schools with recycling bins. During this season of giving, let us become more of an environmentally aware community, giving back to environment which gives so much to us.
Sincerely,
Katie Serock
