Danbury Breast Cancer

Support Meetings Set

DANBURY — The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital will host a “Look Good…Feel Better” workshop sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) on Monday, December 10, from 10 am to noon. The free workshop takes place at the Praxair Cancer Center’s conference room, located on the first floor of the Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance, and valet parking also is available.

“Look Good…Feel Better” workshops focus on teaching female cancer patients beauty techniques that will help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Trained volunteer beauty experts from the community lead small groups through practical, hands-on experience regarding makeup techniques, skin care, nail care, and options related to hair loss such as wigs, turbans, and scarves. Workshop participants will each receive a free kit of cosmetics for use during and after the workshop.

“Look Good…Feel Better” workshops are conducted at Danbury Hospital on the second Monday of each month. To register, contact Danbury Hospital’s cancer care coordinator Joanne Ballerini, RN, at 739-7771.

In related news, a Breast Cancer Education Class will take place at The Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, December 12, from 4 to 5:30 pm. Biweekly classes resume in January, and are conducted monthly on the second and fourth Wednesday, and are open to any newly diagnosed woman with breast cancer.

Breast cancer education classes are held in the Ruth C. Donovan Resource Room Library, located on the first floor, Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance. Family and friends also are invited to attend.

Classes provide information about “what happens next”, including pre- and postoperative care, information regarding chemotherapy and radiation therapy, lymphedema precautions and exercise, relaxation techniques, as well as information about local support services.

Participants also have the opportunity to meet with a breast cancer survivor.
