VANDERVEN & VANDERVEN ORIENTAL ART OPENS NEW GALLERY SPACE DEC. 17
avv/lsb set 11/30 #721037
THE NETHERLANDS â Vanderven & Vanderven Oriental Art, dealers in Chinese porcelain and early terracotta and bronze objects, announce the opening of its new gallery space in âs-Hertogenbosch.
Veterans of TEFAF Maastricht and other leading fairs, the company has been working from private offices by appointment. The inaugural exhibition, âNew Perspectives,â will be on view December 17â23 and reopening December 27â31 after the holidays.
âNew Perspectivesâ was chosen as the title not only to represent the works on show, but also to emphasize the changes created by the new space. The objects have been carefully chosen to highlight the various disciplines that Vanderven & Vanderven specialize in, which the firm is now able to show in a manner that will appeal to both established collectors and new buyers alike.
A highlight of the exhibition will be the âSancai Horse,â a statue from the Tang period (618â907).
The new gallery is housed in a former grammar school built in 1880, which has been completely renovated to create a modern, stylish space. The four showrooms will represent the galleryâs main areas of expertise, with each space approximately 130 feet square with large windows and high ceilings. Dark-stained oak floors finish the spaces.
The Terracotta Room is painted a warm red color to showcase early ceramics from the Han to the Tang periods such as horses, camels and other figures.
The galleryâs important collection of Sixteenth to Eighteenth Century Chinese underglaze blue will be seen together for the first time in the Blue & White Room.
The Enameled Porcelain Room will display porcelain decoration forms, including famille verte, famille noir, famille rose and enamel on biscuit.
The gray-blue Works of Art Room will house works of art such as early bronzes, cast iron vats and bells, Chinese Export silver, lacquer ware and Japanese art, and the ground floor gallery is to be used for social events as well as special exhibitions.
