Curtiss House Is Dressed For The Holidays
Matthew Curtiss House, the 18th Century house-museum at 44 Main Street that is home to Newtown Historical Society, has been festively decorated for its annual open house. The building will be open to the public at no charge on Sunday, December 5, 11 am to 5 pm.
Open hearth cooking will be demonstrated throughout the day. Guides in period costumes will offer informative tours of the restored home. Warm apple cider and other refreshments will be offered, complimentary, to all guests.
Newtown Girl Scout Cadet Troop 433 and Junior Troop 591, Newtown Farm & Garden Center, and other volunteers have tenderly trimmed the Matthew Curtiss House with an assortment of festive greens and period decorations reminiscent of holiday celebrations of years gone by.
Town Historian Dan Cruson will be available beginning at noon to autograph copies of his books, including Images of America: Newtown, The Prehistory of Fairfield County and Newtown Slaves. All Newtown Historical Society publications and copies of Newtown artist David Merrillâs lithograph, âNewtown, Connecticut,â will also be offered for purchase during the open house event.
