Football Team To Host Amity In Tuesday's Playoff Opener
Newtown High School's football team, coming off a 10-0 regular season capped by a 35-18 win at Masuk of Monroe on Thanksgiving Eve, has earned the No. 3 seed in the Class L State Playoffs and will host No. 6 Amity of Woodbridge in the Tuesday, December 3 quarterfinals; kickoff is at 6:30 pm.
The Nighthawks and Amity (8-2) had one common opponent during the slate — Shelton — with both teams coming out on top. Amity defeated Shelton 14-7 in the season opener and NHS outscored Shelton 42-28 in a wild mid-October clash.
The winner will take on No. 2 New Canaan or No. 7 Maloney in the Sunday, December 8 semis at 12:30 pm. Assuming the Nighthawks win they will either visit New Canaan or host Maloney.
On the other side of the bracket No. 1 Naugatuck takes on No. 8 Notre Dame-West Haven and No. 4 Darien hosts No. 5 Fairfield Ludlowe. The Championship will take place Friday, Dec. 13 or Saturday, Dec. 14 at a time and location to be determined.
