To the Editor:old. You can see many historical sights in Newtown, but not all are man-made. Ms Mayer would not want this for the farm she worked so hard to build and keep. Did you know there is an old schoolhouse on the farm? I say seeing bobcats in my yard is amazing, but building houses can destroy that, too. I live on one of the last dirt roads in Newtown, and Beaver Dam is one, also. It would be sad if one of those would be destroyed for new houses that we don't need.

In response to the recent front-page article about Cherry Grove Farm development ["Subdivision Proposal Near Cherry Grove Farm Draws Fire," 11/25/16]. Why are people destroying such beautiful farmland? Others may think it a worthless piece of land, but I think different. To me, I think old farms like Cherry Grove Farm are a piece of Newtown history. Companies are starting to build houses all over the farmland here. There are a ton of houses I see on my bus ride to Head O' Meadow that are brand-new or near new and have been empty for years. So many for sale signs.

Cherry Grove is one of the last farms in Newtown. It makes me sad that it is being destroyed. Preserve our open space and keep Newtown…
