How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve been a resident for about three years.
Who is in your family? Myself, my husband, and my 14-month-old daughter, Nora. She’s just the best. We are working on walking now.
Do you have any pets? One cat named Stevie, named for Stevie Nicks.
What do you like to do in your free time? In a perfect world, if I had free time, I would spend it getting back into running. I love to run. I absolutely love to travel and do long weekend trips, either in New England or elsewhere. I like to antique and go to thrift shops, and I love to read.
What is your favorite book? There’s three and they’re all for different reasons. I love The Hobbit, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Who has had the greatest influence on your life? My dad. He’s overcome a lot of adversity and some health challenges in his life, and has remained a very good person — true to his core. Very patient, very generous, always wanting to do the right thing. Watching him go through some challenges while maintaining those traits has been very rewarding and motivating for me. He’s always been my biggest cheerleader too, through everything I’ve done.
Who is your favorite musical artist? Dave Matthews Band. I’ve seen them every year for 15 years now. They’re my favorite band, but my favorite genre is 1960s and 70s folk rock and psychedelic rock. I’m an old soul when it comes to music.
What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever been given? I’m a basketball girl, so, almost anything Coach John Wooden has said.
What is something you cannot live without? My daughter. Two years ago she wasn’t here, and that’s just weird to me. Also, I love to travel and I’m always thinking about where our next trip could be, so I feel like something I couldn’t live without is possibility. Nora, possibility, and coffee.
What is your proudest accomplishment? Probably being a working mother. Not in that order, because I am always a mother first. I’ll be able to show Nora as she gets older that her mom is making a living, doing what she loves, and being creative while also being a mom. She’ll see those things are possible — you can do them at the same time.
What is your favorite travel destination? All the National Parks I’ve been to. Sorrento, Italy was really cool too.
What is the best part of Newtown?
Community. I grew up in Stratford, and my husband grew up in Ashford. I love where I grew up, I love where Josh grew up, but we wanted to find somewhere that was sort of a mix of both. For us, that was Newtown. The land here is beautiful, it’s a good school system, it’s a family-oriented town, and I love the restaurants here — they’re all so amazing. There’s definitely a sense of community here.
