BRIAN SHURE’S CITYSCAPE PAINTINGS AT NYC’S KATHARINA RICH PERLOW

avv/gs set 11/28 #720761

NEW YORK CITY — “Brian Shure: City Life — New Paintings” is on view through January 5 at the Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery.

In the artist’s fifth show with the gallery, Shure’s new cityscape paintings captures the spirit of the time in his realist paintings of modern city life, specifically in New York City. The artist begins his painting process with casual photographs taken on streets, in parks and public places — these snapshots are rarely composed yet effortlessly capture the particulars of city life, from imposing skyscrapers to the hustle and bustle of taxi-filled streets and crowded sidewalks.

The artist sifts through these “relics of an ever-changing, fragile world” at leisure in his studio, using them to create paintings that, in his words, are “filled with light and offer no subject matter in particular beyond the miracle of moment-to-moment participation in everyday life.”

Shure has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for more than 25 years. His work has been shown in numerous museums and university art centers across the country.

The gallery is in the Fuller Building at 41 East 57th Street. For information, 212-644-7171.
