Sale Nets $2,025.73
The tractor and the trailer were sold and so were a dozen other items, but bidders turned up their noses at most of the almost 70 items available at the townâs recent tag sale.
The sealed-bid tag sale held by the Department of Public Works on November 17 netted a total of $2,025.73, according to Public Works Director Fred Hurley.
The largest bids were made by Stuart Rieve, who bid $1,550 for a Kubota L4150 tractor. Edward Haase had the winning $400 bid for a Trail-Flight tandem axel trailer.
This yearâs sale included everything from metal file cabinets, desks, old computers, and typewriters from the Board of Education, to the tractor and trailer from the Parks and Recreation Department. Everything was sold âas isâ with the high bidder winning.
âWe hold the sale each year because we canât just give the items away,â Mr Hurley said. âItâs disposal of assets. We get what we can.â
Many of the metal items will wind up as scrap, for which the town also receives some money. Getting rid of old computer equipment is more difficult.
âThe schools donât want it,â Mr Hurley said. âWe will try to find some organizations that will take it, but itâs difficult. â
Mr Hurley said the Wheelabrator Company, which operates the townâs transfer station, no longer will accept computer monitors, ostensibly because of the heavy metals in them, although the company still does accept television sets. He said the town, through the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority, is trying to get a grant to set up a one-day regional drop-off day for obsolete electronic equipment.
