There seems to a mixed bag of misconceptions and complacency about the prison in Newtown. Some residents even think that the town has some sort of townwide alarm system, in the event of a problem or escape at the prison, which is absolutely not true.

It is important to have the facts of what we as a community are dealing with when it comes to this maximum security prison. The Public Safety Committee (DOC) is having an open meeting to discuss what exactly is going on in the prison, who is currently there, and any other concerns that might come up. At our next meeting we will have Commissioner John Armstrong from the Department of Corrections there to answer any questions the public has on the prison. I strongly suggest residents take the time to come and become knowledgeable about the facts.

The prison meeting will be held next Monday the 4th at 5 pm in the library.
