Louis J. Holland, Sr

Louis J. “Bud” Holland, Sr, of Newtown and Sunrise, Fla., died peacefully November 23. Born in Greenwich, he was the son of Lillian Wilson Holland and Louis Holland.

He was the husband of Rose Macri Holland for 57 years and father to Robin Buchanan, married to Bob, and Louis “Buddy” Holland, Jr. He was the younger brother of Evelyn Holland Duff.

After completing schooling in the Greenwich School System, he proudly served his country for four years as a member of the United States Marine Corps. 

Upon his discharge, Mr Holland returned to Greenwich and became a journeyman Ironworker of Local 424, New Haven, for 36 years. He was a master mechanic of his trade.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his youth he became fond of beagles and trained them to hunt rabbits, which grew from his love of hunting. He had just returned from a weeklong deer hunting trip in Pine Plains, N.Y., on November 21.

Mr Holland enjoyed traveling throughout our country, Alaska being one of his favorite destinations. He enjoyed spending time with his son, and traveling to Pennsylvania for sprint car racing, as well as the dirt modified circuit in New York. 

He loved his Harley-Davidson and went 11 times to the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota, as well as Daytona Bike Week.

He raised his family on a gentleman's farm and loved tending to his vegetable gardens. One of his favorite past times was to frequent VFW Post 308 in Newtown. 

There will be a celebration of his life at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Saturday, November 30, at noon.
