Four Charges

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Sugar Street at its intersection with South Main Street, Glover Avenue, and Main Street about 4:18 pm on November 21.

While waiting a red traffic signal, motorist Raymond Hoesten, 71, of 46 Underhill Road, who was driving a 2010 GMC Acadia SUV, rolled backward and struck the front end of a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan driven by Sandra Navone, 55, of 165 Hanover Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Hoesten a misdemeanor summons on charges of unsafe movement, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Church Hill/Boulevard

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with The Boulevard, about 6 pm on November 18.

In that incident, motorist Michelle Dorman, 60, of South Salem, N.Y., was driving a 2013 Toyota Prius westward behind westbound motorist Jacqueline Vollmer-Viera, 50, of Southbury, who was driving a 2009 Audi Q-5 SUV, according to police.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dorman a written warning for passing on the right.

Sedan Vs SUV

Police report a two-vehicle accident that occurred about 4:40 pm on November 18 in which the vehicles of two motorists, who were simultaneously attempting to enter the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street, collided.

Both vehicles were attempting to turn right from Queen Street to enter the parking lot, police said.

Involved in the crash were motorist Antonia Fotinopoulos, 52, of 19 Abbotts Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Honda Accord sedan, and motorist Kathleen Dupuis, 57, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2014 Mazda CX-5 SUV, police report.

Dupuis reported pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Fotinopoulos received a written warning for passing on the right, police said.

Fire Truck Accident

An accident involving a town-owned fire truck occurred about 5:30 pm on November 20 at 24 Dodgingtown Road, police report.

Police said that motorist Safet Sadiku, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 dump truck that was hauling a trailer, struck a parked unoccupied 2014 Ford F-350 fire truck, which was stationed there by firefighters who were working at a brush fire in the area.

There were no injuries. The incident is under investigation, police said.

Truck Hits Pole

Trucker Michael Grabherr, 49, of Thomaston was driving a 2007 Freightliner flatbed truck equipped with a crane northward near 31 Poverty Hollow Road at about noon on November 17, when he spotted two deer on the roadway, so he swerved to the right to avoid them but struck a utility pole, a mailbox, and a fence, police said.

The deer were not hit. Grabherr refused medical attention, but said he would seek medical care for injuries received in the crash, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. A section of Poverty Hollow Road was closed to through-traffic while utility repairs were made.

Grabherr received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Truck Vs Pole

At about 2 pm on November 17, trucker Sadjan Dumitrov, 28, of Hartford was driving an International 4900 large box truck northward on New Lebbon Road, near its intersection with High Bridge Road, when the vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole, police said. The truck went into a ditch.

Dumitrov was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police briefly closed a section of New Lebbon Road to through-traffic while truck removal was underway.

Police verbally warned Dumitrov for making a restricted turn.

Truck Hits Sedan

At about noon on November 17, Mohammed Khan, 61, of Bloomfield, N.J., who was driving a 1994 Ford Econoline 160 truck southward near 75 South Main Street, struck the rear end of a southbound 1998 Nissan Altima sedan driven by Jose Freires, 48, of Danbury, according to police.

There were no injuries. Khan received a written waning for following too closely, police said.

Copper Theft

Police report that sometime early this week someone burglarized a vacant Jeremiah Road house and stole copper water pipes from within. Thieves sell such piping for its scrap value. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
