Joseph Cannato

Immeasurably Missed Forever By Family And Friends

Joseph Cannato, 84, of Petersburg, N.Y., died November 20, at home, with his family by his side. He was born March 30, 1926, to Vincent and Antoinette Manasi Cannato in Greenberg, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Cannato; three children, Cindy Wahlberg, and her husband Douglas, of Sandy Hook, Joseph Cannato, and wife Nancy, and Lori Cannato,; and four grandchildren.

Mr Cannato served in the US Navy in World War II from 1943 to 1946. He settled in Norwalk, where he owned and operated a flooring store. He retired to Petersburg where he built his own home and became an avid outdoorsman, spending his time collecting and restoring antiques, and telling stories about World War II. Playing the saxophone was one of his greatest joys, as well as reminiscing about the jazz era where he knew many of the artists. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, love of animals and nature, and extreme devotion to his family.

Calling hours are on Saturday, November 27, from 10 to 11 am, in the Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6, Mahopac, N.Y. A burial with military honors will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, 101 Mill Street, Putman Valley, N.Y. There will be a memorial gathering later that day at the home of his son, Joe Cannato, in Stratford, from 6 to 9 pm. Inquires, 203-375-6436.
