Hawks Swim In States

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team competed in the Class LL state championships this past week and placed 11th among 19 teams with 145 points. Greenwich, with 958.5, took first place. The swimming events were held at Wesleyan University in Middletown on November 17 and the diving competition was held at Hamden High on November 12. Newtown’s results are as follows (event, placement, name(s), time and points):

200 yard medley relay: 12. Maggie Atkinson, Zoe Eggleston, Maggie Hoolehan, and Natalie Dunn,  2:03.75 — 30 points.

40 freestyle: 14. Kelsey McEvoy, 25.92 — 13 points.

100 free: 11. Kelsey McEvoy, 56.74 — 16 points.

200 free relay: 9. McEvoy, Hoolehan, Abigail Fagerholm, and Caroline Lawrence, 1:47.12 — 38 points.

100 backstroke: 24. Atkinson, 1:07.47 — 1 point.

100 breaststroke: 19. Eggleston, 1:14.77 — 6 points.

400 free relay: 11. Lawrence, Alex Scarpa, Fagerholm, and McEvoy, 3:57.52 — 32 points.

Diving: 17. Elizabeth Poeltl, 223.45 — 9 points.
