DUI Charge
Newtown Police report Aniceto Guaman, 44, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road at 7:30 am November 4. James MacDonald, 29, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Audi A4, was traveling eastbound on Dodgingtown Road. Guaman crossed the double yellow line and struck MacDonald’s vehicle.
MacDonald was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.
Guaman was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to drive right, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.
Honda Hits Hyundai
Newtown Police report Isabella Rocha, 19, of Waterbury, operating a 2017 Honda CR-V, was traveling south on South Main Street at 11:56 am November 5. She was traveling behind a 2018 Hyundai Kona operated by Caitlyn Delaney, 25, of Trumbull. Delaney came to a stop for traffic ahead and Rocha did not stop in time, rear-ending Delaney’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Rocha was issued an infraction for following too close.
Tractor Trailer Strikes Bridge
Newtown Police report Jose Tavarez, 42, of Bridgeport, operating a 2014 Hino 258 tractor trailer, was traveling southbound on Currituck Road at 8:24 pm November 5. Tavarez failed to obey state traffic control signs and the top of his vehicle struck the bridge, causing functional damage.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Tavarez was issued an infraction for failure to obey height requirements.
Collided With Rock Wall
Newtown Police report Jermaine Harris, 27, of Seymour, operating a 2008 BMW 135i, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 11:25 pm November 5. Harris traveled off the roadway and struck a natural wall of rock.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Harris was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane.
Struck Leaf Blower
Newtown Police report Jefry Reyes, 29, of Danbury, operating a 2011 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road at 7:49 am November 6. He was traveling behind a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Christopher Ricketson, 45, of Seymour, who was towing a small size leaf blower. Ricketson slowed in traffic and Reyes did not, and Reyes’ vehicle struck the leaf blower.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Reyes was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Ricketson was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Hit Deer
Newtown Police report Christopher Eaton, 36, of Middletown, operating a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder, was traveling westbound on Hawleyville Road at 5:30 pm November 6. A deer ran in the roadway and struck the front of the vehicle.
Eaton was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.
Struck Vehicle Leaving Driveway
Newtown Police report Jill Wolowitz, 73, of Newtown, operating a 2019 BMW 530 XI, was pulling out of a driveway on Main Street at 5:01 pm November 7. Isabella Graicerstein, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Ford Taurus, was traveling northbound on Main Street. Wolowitz pulled from the driveway in front of Graicerstein’s vehicle, causing it to collide with Wolowitz’s vehicle.
Both drivers and a passenger in Graicerstein’s vehicle were evaluated by Newtown EMS, and Graicerstein and the passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.
Wolowitz was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way from a driveway.
Deer Hit On Toddy Hill
Newtown Police report Mary Blackburn, 39, of Southbury, operating a 2017 Chevrolet Volt, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 5:36 pm November 7. A deer ran from the side of the road and struck Blackburn’s vehicle.
Blackburn was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.
Rear-Ended Mercedes
Newtown Police report Louis Sahley, 64, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Subaru Impreza, was traveling eastbound on Mile Hill Road at 9:33 am November 11. He was traveling behind a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E3504m operated by Earl Ormond, 61, of Trumbull. Ormond stopped for traffic to turn left into Walgreen’s, and Sahley rear-ended his vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Ormond’s vehicle was towed.
Sahley was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Rear-Ended On Berkshire Road
Newtown Police report Jose Discua, 49, of Ansonia, operating a 2013 Kia Sorrento, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 2:18 pm November 11. He was traveling behind a 2008 Lexus RX 350 operated by Peter Santo, 76, of Weston. Santo came to a stop for traffic ahead and Discua did not stop in time, rear-ending Santo’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Discua’s vehicle was towed.
Discua was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Vehicle Rolled Backwards
Newtown Police report Shade Hinds, 22, of Bridgeport, operating a 2021 Ford Transit, was stopped on the side of the roadway of Toddy Hill Road at 5:02 pm November 11. Kaylyn Henderson, 36, of West Haven, operating a 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring, was stopped in traffic behind Hinds’ vehicle. Hinds said she was out of the vehicle and reached in to turn the vehicle off when it began to roll backwards. The rear of Hinds’ vehicle struck the front of Henderson’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Hinds was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.
Branch Landed On SUV
Newtown Police report Christina Moutela, 35, of Southbury, operating a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 11:38 am November 12. Moutela observed a large branch falling from a tree roadside of the southbound lane. Moutela stopped the vehicle as the branch was falling and it landed on the hood of the vehicle and part of the windshield.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Both Vehicles Towed
Newtown Police report Wendy Humphries, 43, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Audi Q8, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 11:51 am November 13. Debra Heckmann, 74, of Brookfield, operating a 2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring, was stopped in the driveway of 228 South Main Street at a red light.
The southbound light turned red and the signal for 228 turned green. Heckmann proceeded into the intersection and Humphries traveled through the red light, striking Heckmann’s vehicle.
Both drivers were examined by Newtown EMS on the scene but were not transported. Both vehicles were towed.
Humphries was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic control signal.
Hit And Run Driver Sought
Newtown Police report an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Keating Farms Avenue at 8:26 pm November 13. It was traveling behind a 2016 Honda Pilot operated by Marisa Foss, 47, of Newtown. Foss came to a stop at the intersection of DG Beers Boulevard, and was struck from behind by the unknown vehicle. Foss pulled over with the intention of speaking with the operator of the unknown vehicle and calling police, but the vehicle fled the scene. Foss was unable to get the make, model, or license plate, but said the vehicle was a black or dark colored sedan.
A passenger complained of a minor injury but declined transport. Foss’ vehicle was not towed.
If found, the operator of the unknown vehicle would be charged with evading responsibility for property damage or injury, and following too close.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information regarding the identity of the evading operator is asked to contact Officer John Facto at 203-426-5841.
Assault Charges
Newtown Police report that Robert Stoerzinger, 45, of Newtown, turned himself in to the Newtown Police Department on a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree assault. Stoerzinger was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 18 in Danbury Superior Court.
Hit Tree
Newtown Police report Mercedes Aguilar, 30, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Nissan Rogue, was traveling southbound on Brushy Hill Road at 3:58 pm November 15. While turning onto Platts Hill Road, the vehicle traveled off the road, where it struck a tree and came to a rest over a culvert.
Aguilar was transported to Danbury Hospital for a suspected minor injury. The vehicle was towed.
Aguilar was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failure to maintain a lane.
Struck At Stop Sign
Newtown Police report Sean-Michael Perez, 21, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., was traveling on Swamp Road at 5:20 pm November 15. He was traveling behind a 2015 Subaru Forester operated by Elizabeth Kahn, 60, of Brookfield. Kahn came to a stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Swamp Road and Botsford Hill Road and Perez rear-ended her vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Perez was issued an infraction for following too close.
