DUI Incident

Police said they spotted a 2016 Hyundai Sonata sedan crossing over the roadway's fog line near the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road, so they stopped the motorist who was driving the Hyundai to investigate.

Police report they then charged motorist Jonathan Tomatore, 24, of Monroe with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Following processing, police released Tomatore on $100 bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Attempted Burglary

Police report that at about noon on October 31, they received a call informing them that an attempted residential burglary had occurred late that morning in the Hundred Acres Road neighborhood, so they went to the area to investigate.

Surveillance cameras positioned in that area captured some images of a possible suspect, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

SUV Vs Pickup Vs Minivan

At about 2:17 pm on November 5 on northbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Laurel Road, motorist Carla DeOliveira, 42, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Honda CR-V SUV, struck the rear end of a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Thomas Faurot, 59, of Pawcatuck, pushing the Dodge into the rear end of a 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Rebecca Shroyer, 54, of Wilton, according to police.

There were no injuries. DeOliveira received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Hattertown Road Rear-Ender

While both vehicles were northbound on Hattertown Road, about 100 feet south of its intersection with Abbotts Hill Road, at about 2:03 am on November 13, motorist Dylan Baid, 24, of Newtown, who was driving a 2006 Honda Accord, struck the rear end of 2012 Jeep patriot driven by Matthew Opinski, 31, of Danbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Baid an infraction for following too closely.

Toyota Vs Tree

About 2:36 am on November 13, motorist Joseph Gaudet, 17, of Wethersfield, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Berkshire Road, about one-half mile west of Great Quarter Road, crossed the roadway's center lines and then went off the left side of the road, striking a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gaudet an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Hyundai Hits Tree

At about 4 am on November 13, motorist John Costa, 49, of Danbury was driving a 2010 Hyundai Accent westward on Castle Hill Road, about 400 feet west of Pumpkin Lane, when a deer entered the roadway, police said. Costa swerved, but then went off the left side of the road, striking a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Costa for failure to maintain the travel lane while on a curve.

Botsford Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred on South Main Street at the entrance to Plaza South shopping center in Botsford at about 4 pm on November 14.

Motorist Sergei Zhelonkin, 42, of Monroe was driving a 2009 Subaru Legacy southward on South Main Street, as motorist Frances Sayers, 76, of Newtown was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer northward on South Main Street, according to police.

The Ford then attempted to make a left turn to enter Plaza South, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Sayers an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Hawleyville Accident

At about 6:20 pm on November 14, a two-vehicle collision occurred on the eastbound Mt Pleasant Road, in the area lying between that road's intersections with Taunton Lane and Hawleyville Road.

Motorist Justin Sollenne, 24, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1998 Acura Integra, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Jelkin Ferrand, 26, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, police said.

Ferrand reported pain but refused ambulance transport, police said. Sollenne reported pain and was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital, according to police. Ferrand received an infraction for traveling an unreasonable distance apart, police said.

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 8:30 pm on November 14, motorist Luis Lorenzo, Jr, of The Bronx, N.Y., who was driving a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder SUV eastward on Interstate 84, veered off the left side of the roadway, struck some guardcables and then came to rest on the median, just west of Rochambeau Bridge. State police said when they arrived at the accident scene, Lorenzo was found asleep at the wheel with the engine running.

State police arrested Lorenzo on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. Lorenzo was released on $1,500 nonsurety bail for a December 1 court appearance.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police said that on November 15, motorist Kerrin Hage, 41, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Toyota Sienna minivan with three passengers, westward on Wasserman Way, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84, when the Toyota was struck from behind by westbound motorist Madison Canalori, 19, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to evaluate the minivan's passengers, police said. Canalori received an infraction for following too closely, according to police.

Berkshire Road Crash

About 8:09 am on November 16, while in traffic on eastbound Berkshire Road, just east of its intersection with Wasserman Way, motorist Sandra Liovvi, 49, of Oxford, who was driving a 2010 Ford Focus owned by the US Postal Service, struck the rear end of a 2014 Subaru Forester driven by Kamkeung Ho, 59, of New Milford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Liovvi for following too closely.

Down The Embankment

Motorist Wayne Sterry, 33, of Naugatuck was driving a 2011 Honda CR-Z westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 7 am on November 17, when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the left side of the road, drove through some guardcables and then drove down an embankment, state police said. Sterry was able to get out of the vehicle by himself, state police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Sterry to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation, state police report. Sterry failed to stay in the established lane, state police report.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 10:36 am on November 17, they received a report about a man who was allegedly drinking alcohol at Dickinson Park on Elm Drive, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found the man in question, Michael Roberto, 54, of Newtown driving a motor scooter northward on Elm Drive, so they stopped him to investigate. Police report they charged Roberto with driving under the influence and with a driver's license violation.

After processing, police released Roberto on $250 bail for a December 1 court appearance.

Sandy Hook DUI

Police report they saw motorist Marc Bonacci, 24, of Sandy Hook driving erratically on Berkshire Road, near High Rock Road, about 10:14 pm on November 17, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Bonacci with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After processing, police released Bonacci on $100 bail a December 1 court appearance.

Criminal Trespassing

Police report that after investigating a complaint lodged at about 11 pm on November 17, they charged Timothy Geary, 55, of no certain address, for illegally being inside Edmond Town Hall. Police said they arrested Geary on a charge of second-degree criminal trespassing.

Geary was held on bail overnight for an appearance the following day in state Superior Court in Danbury. Geary pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released for a December 9 court appearance.

Failure To Appear

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, James Tani, 43, of Sandy Hook went to the police station on the night of November 17 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Newtown police said the violation stems from a 2013 case in which Derby police charged Tani with two motor vehicle violations. Newtown police said they released Tani on $5,000 bail for a December 1 court appearance.

Jeep Vs Ford

Police said they responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Paugussett Road about 10:43 am on November 18.

The accident involved motorist Austin Monteiro, 33, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler SUV, and motorist Christopher Wallace, 27, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2006 Ford Escape SUV, according to police. The Jeep struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Monteiro for following too closely.

Botsford BMW Collision

Police report that motorist Michael Greenspan, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 BMW 328-XI sedan about 3:51 pm on November 18, was attempting to drive across South Main Street from a commercial driveway at 255 South Main Street to another commercial driveway at 228 South Main Street.

Northbound traffic on South Main Street had stopped and Greenspan attempted to drive cross the street, but he then collided with a southbound 2012 Volkswagen Passat driven by Christine Bruzinski, 55, of Trumbull, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Greenspan an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Church Hill Raod Crash

Police said that at about 9:09 pm on November 18, motorist Hope Johnson, 43, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2010 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto northbound Walnut Tree Hill Road and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Dustin Gill, 26, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Honda Accord.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Gill an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

South Main DUI

Police report that at about 12:25 am on November 19, they spotted a 2007 Acura RDX SUV, which was traveling on South Main Street near its intersection with Ethan Allen Road, cross over the road's center lines, so they stopped the motorist to investigate why that had happened.

Police said they then charged motorist Lauro Maldonado, 34, of Bridgeport with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After arrest processing, police released him on $100 bail for a December 6 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 2:17 am on November 19, they stopped motorist Andy Tzortzakis, 36, of Norwalk near 151 South Main Street for driving too fast. Police said that after investigating, they charged Tzortzakis with driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing the charges, police released Tzortzakis on $100 bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Multiple Charges

Police report that motorist Michael Capaldo, 18, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2010 BMW 328-XI sedan southward on Great Ring Road, near Erin Lane, about 11:32 pm on November 22, when he lost control of the auto and it drove off the road, struck a utility pole, went airborne, and then rolled over.

Capaldo got out of the vehicle and fled the accident scene on foot, police said. Police located Capaldo in their investigation and charged him with driving under the influence by a minor with elevated blood-alcohol content, reckless driving, evading responsibility, and making a restricted turn.

Capaldo was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for an evaluation, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company firefighters responded to the accident scene on a report of wires down.

Police said they released Capaldo from custody on $10,000 nonsurety bail for an arraignment on the multiple charges on December 7 in state Superior Court in Danbury.
