Butcher’s Best delivered all the makings of a home-cooked Thanksgiving feast — turkey, potatoes, stuffing, and green beans — to Families United in Newtown (FUN) for a Thanksgiving Pot Luck meeting Saturday, November 21, at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

FUN is a recreational program for families with special needs children created in 2009 in memory of Tyler Jones.

Newtown High School National Honors Junior and Senior students and other volunteers mentored special needs students while they ate, danced, and painted Ben’s Bells ceramics. The event also provided their families an opportunity to socialize, eat, and relax while volunteers supported the students.

Local musician Joe Proc was also at the event entertaining with guitar music, drums, and singing.

The free grassroots autism and special needs support group meets monthly to provide recreational entertainment for families from Newtown and the surrounding area. The next FUN meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm on December 19 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 16 Sawmill Road.
