South Main DUI
Police report that while on patrol about 1:47 am on November 18, they spotted motorist Eric Shields, 38, of Bethel driving southward on South Main Street, near Peckâs Lane, and crossing over South Main Streetâs center lines multiple times.
Police said they stopped Shields to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After processing, police released Shields on $400 bail for a December 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Rear-Ender
About 1:12 pm on November 16, motorist Victoria Schneider, 56, of Sherman, who was driving a 2011 Cadillac STS sedan northward near 63 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Cadillac was struck from behind by a 2010 Toyota Prius four-door hatchback driven by Susan Duval, 42, of 4 Sunset Hill Road, police report.
There were no injuries. Duval received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
Jewelry Theft
Police said that on November 15, they received a report that on November 13 a female resident of an Osborn Hill Road home discovered that her gold bracelet, which is decorated with diamonds and black stones, was missing from her home. The residence is on the section of Osborn Hill Road lying between its intersections with Mountain Laurel Lane and Crabapple Lane.
Police are investigating the matter as a case of theft. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.
Seven Charges
Police report that at about 10 am on November 16, they stopped motorist Todd Beardsworth, 38, of Trumbull, whom they saw driving westward on Wasserman Way and talking on a handheld cellphone, after which they charged Beardsworth with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and also with driving with a suspended license.
Regarding those charges, police released Beardsworth on $250 bail for a November 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court,
Also, Newtown police learned that Stratford police held a warrant on Beardsworth listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, improper use of a marker plate, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.
After police processed those charges, Beards worth was released on $1,500 bail for a November 30 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Three Vehicles
Three vehicles traveling southward near 86 South Main Street were involved in an accident about 2 pm on November 18.
After traffic on the road had stopped moving, motorist Barbara Hill-Young, 51, of 33-B Forest Drive, who was driving a 1995 BMW 530-I sedan, struck the rear end of a 2010 Ford sedan driven by Anna Plevka, no age given, of Bethel, police said.
That impact pushed the Ford sedan forward and the Ford sedan then struck the rear end of a 2009 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Michael Pilott, 46, of Bridgeport, police said.
Ambulance volunteers transported Plevka to Danbury Hospital on a complaint of pain, police said. Police said they issued Hill-Young an infraction for following too closely.
New Milford Woman
Police report that they stopped motorist Phouvong Somphousiharath, 26, of New Milford for an apparent motor vehicle violation about 5:18 pm November 18 on Wasserman Way.
Police said that on investigating, they learned that there was an outstanding arrest warrant from Bridgeport Superior Court pending against Somphousiharath.
That warrant lists charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, third-degree assault, and third-degree criminal mischief in connection with a February incident in Stratford.
Following processing, police released Somphousiharath on $2,500 bail for a December 6 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Queen Street
Motorist Douglas Pierce, 17, of 10 Chestnut Hill Road was driving a 2002 Honda CRV SUV northward on Queen Street about 7:15 pm on November 18, when motorist Andrew Stubbs, 44, of 17 Tunnel Road, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Commander SUV, exited the driveway at 11 Queen Street, traveling in front of the approaching Honda, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries.
Police said they issued Stubbs an infraction for failure to grant the right of way. Additionally, police said they issued Stubbs an infraction on two counts of transporting a child without the use of a child restraint system. Police said the Jeep driven by Stubbs contained two 6-year-old passengers.
 Truck Vs Overpass
Police learned about 5:14 pm on November 18 that a box truck, which had been traveling eastward on Botsford Hill Road, had attempted to drive beneath the low-clearance Housatonic Railroad overpass on Botsford Hill Road, near its intersection with Swamp Road, but that the top of the truckâs cargo area struck the bottom of the overpass.
The truck driver left the scene of the accident before police arrived to investigate.
Police said they found splintered wooden debris on the ground at the accident scene. There was no visible damage to the bridge, police said. Police said they notified the railroad of the collision.
The bridge often is struck by vehicles that are too tall to pass beneath the span, although the bridge clearance is clearly posted.
The November 18 incident amounts to a case of evading responsibility. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Steven Santucci at 203-426-5841.
Intersection
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Orchard Hill Road about 6:11 pm on November 18.
In that incident, motorist Tina Cronin, 37, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2008 Lexus GX-470 SUV northward on South Main Street, was attempting to make a left turn onto Orchard Hill Road, police report.
At that time, motorist Stephen Sanders, 43, of Newtown, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee SUV, was attempting to make a left turn from Orchard Hill Road onto northbound South Main Street.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Sanders an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.
Highway Crash
State police report that motorist Vincent Mendez, 47, of Southbury was driving a 2011 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck eastward in heavy traffic on Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 10 at about 6:35 pm on November 18, when Mendez slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Douglas Hannum, 61, of Nottingham, Penn, who was driving a 1991 Nissan Sentra.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
 Interstate Accident
At about 6:12 pm on November 18, motorist Maria Pereira, 46, of Waterbury was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima sedan eastward on Interstate 84 in the right lane of three lanes about 500 feet west of Exit 11, state police.
Eastbound motorist Vasavi Chakilam, 27, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan, was traveling in the center lane of three lanes and then attempted to merge into the right lane, but struck the Nissan, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said Chakilam was at fault in the accident.

I-84 Collision
Motorist Doreen Carroll, 46, of Beacon Falls, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10 at about 4:40 pm on November 18, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Andrew Rivera, 17, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Prizm, state police said.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Hopewell Road
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hopewell Road, near its intersection with Poverty Hollow Road, about 8:30 am on November 21.
Police said motorist Laura Rubinson, 51, of 11 Arlyn Ridge Road was driving a 2008 BMW 3-series convertible southward, as motorist Scott Rose, 34, of Redding was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro coupe northward there.
The BMW struck the Chevrolet, causing the Chevrolet to enter the northbound road shoulder where it then struck a tree, police said.
Police said ambulance volunteers responded to the accident scene, but both drivers refused medical attention. Police said they issued Rubinson an infraction for failure to drive to the right.
Elm Drive
Motorist Kevin Grover, 49, of 10 Ox Hill Road was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer SUV northward on Elm Drive, near County Club Road, about 5:30 pm on November 19, when a deer ran out onto the street, resulting in a collision, police report. Grover was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
