NHS Students Gather Food
For Local Families
Newtown High Schoolâs Executive Class Council members of the graduating classes 2012â15 gathered in the schoolâs cafetorium on Tuesday, November 22, to sort food that will go to 16 local families through the Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury.
Over the past two weeks members of the Executive Class Council have been spreading the word about the food driver through the school and community, and on Tuesday, enough food was gathered to fill three shopping bags for each of the 16 families.
Food leftover after the bags are assembled will be donated to the food pantry at Social Services in Newtown.
According to the Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury, the nonprofit organization helps women and families in the Danbury area, including Newtown. According to Class Council Advisors, Newtown families will receive food donated through the NHS food drive initiative.
