Many Supported

2011 CROP Walk

To the Editor:

On Sunday, October 23, the CROP Hunger Walk took place at Fairfield Hills attended by dozens of people from a community of various Newtown churches.

On behalf of the Newtown United Methodist Church and Church World Service, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Jon Christensen and the Newtown Lions Club for their generous donation in supporting this important cause.

CROP Hunger Walks help fight hunger and poverty locally and globally by raising awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as assisting local food banks and pantries. We walk in solidarity with those in developing countries who typically walk as much as six miles a day to get water, food, fuel, and take their goods to market.

Through the Lions Club’s tireless volunteer efforts and fundraising not only does Newtown benefit, but they bring the world closer as “our community.”

Thank you.
