Holiday Exhibit For Gunn Museum

WASHINGTON GREEN — The Gunn Museum will open its holiday exhibit, “The Magical Christmas Horse,” with a reception on Sunday, November 27, from 1 to 3 pm.

This holiday season museum visitors will be introduced to the new children’s book of the same name by best-selling author Mary Higgins Clark and award-winning artist Wendell Minor. The setting of The Magical Christmas Horse is based on the historic 1746 Averill Farm in Washington, and the Gunn Museum’s toy horse is the inspiration behind this enchanting Christmas story.

Wendell Minor’s original works of art from The Magical Christmas Horse will be the highlight of this exhibition. Visitors will learn about the process of creating this children’s book.

The exhibition also features whimsical displays of spectacular toy horses of all shapes and sizes from the collection of the Gunn Museum and area residents. Under the artistic direction of designer Chris Zaima and the collaboration of John Pitts, the former scenic artist at The Metropolitan Opera in New York City, this exhibit captures the holiday spirit for children of all ages.

Mary Higgins Clark is an international best-selling author of thirty suspense novels, three collections of short stories, a historical novel, and a memoir. In the US alone, her books have sold over 100 million copies. She is also the coauthor with her daughter, Carol Higgins Clark, of five holiday suspense novels.

Wendell Minor is the award-winning illustrator of more than fifty picture books, including the New York Times bestselling picture books Reaching for the Moon and Look to the Stars, written by the Astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Mr Minor’s work can be found in the permanent collections of such institutions as the Norman Rockwell Museum and the Library of Congress. He and his wife Florence live in Washington.

“The Magical Christmas Horse” will remain on view until Sunday, January 22. The museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm; and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Admission is free (donations are appreciated).

The Gunn Memorial Museum is at 5 Wykeham Road, at the intersection of Route 47.
